Street Art of Barrio de Jalatlaco
On my third full day in Oaxaca City, I decided to venture out to the artsy Barrio de Jalatlaco. As one of the oldest neighborhoods in Oaxaca, this area of the city is known for its cobblestone streets and beautiful street art.

Even though it’s not a particularly big neighborhood, it took me a couple of hours to explore as I zigzagged down each and every street and ally to take photos. It seems like being a work of art is a a prerequisite to existing as a building in this area.

Surprisingly, I didn’t encounter many tourists around here (give it five years). But, I did run into one fellow gringo. We took turns photographing each other in front of a skeleton painting.

The area had a lot of cool bars and restaurants, and I have a feeling its nightlife is great. I’ll have to return in the evening.
