Should You Rent a Scooter in Madeira?
Heck yes you should!

We have now reached the semi-tropical island of Madeira, Portugal: a geographically strange and beautiful place that has over 400 marked hiking trails. And, of course, that unmistakable Portuguese charm!

Much like Corfu, the island of Madeira is both warm and mountainous, with narrow, hilly, windy streets. The beautiful hiking trails are scattered across the island in places that are not particularly accessible by public transit. It’s the perfect place to have a scooter that can weave around things and park just about anywhere. So, that’s what we went with for transportation. Scoopy’s back, baby!

Our first order of business was to drive the new Scoopy up into the mountains, where we could enjoy those famous cloud vistas. Whaaaat.

I know it looks like we might have hiked for hours to get here, but these viewpoints were no more than 20 minutes from the car park. You can see it from this photo.

Back to Funchal for now. More ambitious journeys will be undertaken soon!
