Sea Kayaking in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia

I’m in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia this week visiting some family. I figured that I couldn’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the Atlantic coastline from my favorite vantage point.

Pleasant Paddling is a sea kayaking tour company based in Blue Rocks: a small fishing village about 10 minutes from Lunenburg and an hour from Halifax. They offer several half-day, full-day, and even multi-day tours around the area. My dad and I hopped into two of their high-quality sit-inside kayaks and embarked on a morning tour.

Carson, our guide, took us on a three-hour paddle around many of the protected islands.
When a map is covered with little green splotches, you know you’re in for some good paddling.

Visiting in mid-May is a bit of a risk, as Nova Scotia is known for its late, foggy springs. But we couldn’t have been luckier with the weather. High of 18C and practically no wind.
My dad hadn’t been kayaking in decades. I think he had a good time!

At the halfway point, we stopped at Mountain Cove for a snack break. The cove was full of beautiful rock formations, and the very clear water allowed us to see the seaweed beds below.

This little fishing hut might be my favorite shot from the trip. Iconic east coast Canada.
