Scuba Diving in Corfu, Greece

For our last big Palaiokastritsa excursion, we set out for the Achilleon Diving centre.

After showing our dive cards and filling out some waivers, we were quickly suited up and whisked away on a little boat.

The dive site we went to, which was about 20 minutes from the centre, didn’t have much in the way of marine life. However, it made up for this (ish) with its interesting rock formations.

I had been wondering why we were given full wet suits with hoods, despite Corfu having been 30 degrees the whole week. This choice soon made sense though, as the water inside the caverns that Corfu is known for can be surprisingly cold.

I think I’ve been a bit spoiled by diving destinations like Thailand. Not just in terms of the dive sites themselves, but the overall experience. In resort destinations, they put the gear on the boat for you! They feed you delicious food between dives! Diving in Corfu… it felt like more work for less payoff. I decided that one dive was sufficient to feel like I had seen Corfu’s reefs.

James went back out for some more dives on his own. His group went into some neat caves (unfortunately, they didn’t look like much on our GoPro, but you could tell they were cool), and also saw an octopus!

I stayed at the hotel and had a nice writing day.
