One Magical Night in London Town

Our flight from Dubrovnik to Madeira included an 18-hour layover in London, UK. And you know we weren’t about to waste those hours doing something silly, like sleeping. To Victoria Station!

By the time we went through customs, dropped off our baggage at the airport hotel, and took the train downtown, we had maybe 40 minutes of remaining daylight. We spent those minutes running around photographing every landmark we could find.

People think the Big Ben is the name of the tower, but it’s actually the name of the bell inside. The tower is Big Ben’s monster.

After the sun went below the horizon, we slowed down a little and spent some time strolling along the river, through festive markets and street food plazas. The vibes in this city were 10/10.

We were just in time for Christmas cheer! On some streets, we could actually see the decorations being set up as we walked by.

But the highlight for me was, of course, the Globe Theatre. What a thing to get to see.

After spending a bit too much time perusing the Shakespearean gift shop, we jogged halfway across the city to make our dinner reservation at an over-the-top fancy restaurant. Happy birthday to James!

Overall, our time in London was a chaotically beautiful experience. Totally overwhelming, absolutely awe-inspiring, and ridiculously rushed. But a rushed London is so much better than no London!

Perhaps next time, we’ll stay a while longer.
