Kayaking to A Hidden Beach Near Dhermi

Today, we set out for Gjipe: a small beach near Dhermi, Albania that’s surrounded by canyons.

To get there, you can drive to a parking lot at the end of the paved road, and then continue on foot for about 30 minutes.

Welcome to Gjipe! Crystal clear water and beautiful cliffside. What’s not to love?

Although Gjipe isn’t exactly a secret beach, it is certainly less crowded than other, more accessible beaches. A couple of low-tech bars and scattered sunbeds dot the sand, with plenty of remaining room for beach towels, tents, and out-of-commission camper vans.

And that’s about all that… wait, are those kayaks?

Indeed they were. Time for a side quest.

Like in Ksamil, we found the kayaking near Dhermi to be spectacular. The water was very calm, and interesting rocks and coves emerged around every corner.

It wasn’t long before we reached another, even more remote beach. I’m pretty sure it’s not possible to walk to this beach. There were no businesses here, and the couple dozen or so beachgoers appeared to have been dropped off by boat.

This beach had a neat cave, which offered a rare opportunity for shade. Even in mid-September, it’s still 30+ degrees here in southern Albania.

After another quick dip, we decided to start making our way back to Gjipe.

Just look at this water. Totally unreal.

So long, Gjipe. You were wonderful!
