Diving at Hin Muang and Hin Daeng
Hin Muang and Hin Daeng are two of the best dive sites in the Andaman Sea. Both sites feature enormous, submerged rock pinnacles, way out in the ocean, that drop dramatically into the abyss. They are located within Mu Koh Lanta National Marine Park, and are about an 80 minute speedboat ride from Koh Lanta. They can also be reached from Koh Phi Phi (~2 hours) or Krabi (~3 hours). Many of the dive shops in these areas regularly schedule special visits to these sites. We were lucky enough to get to visit the sites with the Relax & Dive crew as part of our advanced open water course.

Hin Muang, which means “Red Rock”, is the highest vertical wall in Thailand. On one end, it descends 70 meters, and on the other end it simply disappears into the open ocean. It was absolutely beautiful, and also a challenging dive due to the site having little shelter and a strong current. Strong swimming skills are a must.

Hin Daeng (“Purple Rock”) was a considerably easier dive, because this reef is larger and has more shelter.

We did not manage to spot any whale sharks during our visit. But, wild whale sharks have been frequently sighted around Hin Muang and Hin Daeng, especially between the months of February to April.

Many thanks to our fantastic divemaster, Oh!
