Yesterday, we said goodbye to Albania – our wonderful home for the past month – and made our way north to Žabljak, Montenegro. We’ll be staying in a cabin here for the next week.

The main attraction near Žabljak is Durmitor National Park: a UNESCO site full of glacial lakes, mountain peaks, alpine meadows, and over 200km of marked hiking trails.

Courtesy of Lauren Pears, we have a list of seven hikes that we hope to complete during our seven-day stay here. Today, we started off nice and easy with the Crno Jezero hike, which is a 5km path around Black Lake.

The amount of natural beauty and diversity we encountered on this short hike has us really excited for the longer excursions, which we plan to attempt over Thanksgiving long weekend.

I’m thinking we may want to download some trail maps though, because the signage around here takes some getting used to.

Kayaks! But sadly, they were closed for the season. We’ll just have to come back during the summertime.

This is not about Durmitor per se, but did you know that in Montenegro, you can buy a SIM card with a TERABYTE of data for 20 euros? Canadians, we’re getting played by our phone companies.

I’ll leave you with one more photo from this gorgeous lake.
