Exploring Lokrum Island, Croatia
There are over 1000 islands and islets in Croatia. During our relatively short visit to the country, we got to visit just one. Lokrum Island!

Lokrum Island is a 15 minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik. It’s a car-free island, with well-marked pathing that will take you around its 76 hectares of forest.

We began our visit by checking out the “dead sea” (#6 on the map): a saltwater lake where people often go swimming in the summertime.

Then we headed down to the shore to play around on the rocks near the waves (#5).

Of course, we had to visit the Benedictine monastery (#3) and its gardens (#4). Not only because they were founded in 1023 AD (awesome), but because this was yet another Game of Thrones filming location. Qarth, which Daenerys visits in Season 2.

We were expecting this island to be mostly forest hiking, but it had so much more to offer. Check out this cactus garden (#8)!

Finally we reached Fort Royal (#13): the highest point on the island that offers the best views of the city.

I think Dubrovnik is so worth visiting in November. Sure, the weather is a bit touch and go. But when you get a good day, you get to enjoy it with a tiny fraction of the crowds you would find in the summertime.

Too bad the kayak rentals are closed for the season. This looks like some pretty smooth paddling!
