Diving in Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta Yai is a beautiful, laidback island off the coast of Krabi. Surrounded by clear, protected waters and stunning reefs that are teaming with wildlife, it offers some of Thailand’s best diving.

Tired of missing out on deep dives due our basic open water qualifications, James and I decided that Koh Lanta would be a good place to take the advanced open water course. We booked our course with Relax & Dive, which provided a fantastic experience from start to finish. We visited the dive shop on the weekend, got fitted with our gear and picked up some theory to review. Then, we completed eight dives over next week.

Every dive was full of stunning cliffs, coral, and fish. The water was very warm, and visibility was generally great.

On the deep dive (30 metres), we saw this incredible cave.
If you look closely, you can see there is a stingray sleeping under the sand in these photos. We kept our distance. (RIP Steve Irwin).

But the absolute highlight of the course was an OCTOPUS! The octopus was very shy, hiding in his little cove. But when we backed away and gave him some space, he came out a bit.
Our instructor, Oh, absolutely blew me away with her knowledge and skills. As of Spring 2022, Oh had logged over 4800 dives. Truly an expert in her craft, and it was really inspiring to take this course from her. Hope to see you again someday, Oh!
