A Montenegro Road Trip and Some Ziplining
On Wednesday, we checked out of our cozy cabin in Zabljak and drove south to Gusinje.
When you’re on a Montenegrin road trip (or perhaps any road trip through the Balkans), it’s important to leave plenty of time for animal-related delays.

Having snagged some annual Montenegro Parks passes for 13 euros apiece, we of course wanted to get our mileage out of them. So we stopped into Biogradska Gora, which is one of three last remaining rainforests in Europe. It was a shame we only had time for a quick hike around the lake. Gorgeous!

The drive also took us deep into the Tara Canyon: an absolutely phenomenal drive that I think would be particularly beautiful on a motorcycle. Another destination that would be worthy of more time!

We had actually visited the canyon the previous day to try the ziplining, which is one of the major attractions here.

The ziplining itself was… pretty silly. But hey: how can you call yourself a tourist if you don’t try out the occasional tourist trap?
Behold the face of someone experiencing thrill and awe.

Getting to ride in the back of a truck was fun though.

Anyway, after driving through the gorgeous canyons, we stopped for some lunch of the side of the highway. As always, there were more animal shenanigans.

And finally, we reached our new guesthouse near Gusinje! We are staying at the edge of Prokletje National Park, home to the Accursed Mountains on the Montenegro side. Stay tuned for more mountain trekking adventures!
